about

There was a shack. An unused private garage where Arnolds used to keep his old VAZ-21011, but over the years it hard been turned into a storage where piles of unnecessary items were kept.

„… And then there was light”, or, in other words, a smart idea to turn the place into a practice space for mid- and late 90s hardcore/punk/ska bands from Valmiera and nearby. The one whose mind this idea crossed was Ģirts „Lomiks” Laumanis (the son of Arnolds). The shack was soon transformed not only into a practice space, but it also became some sort of a hub for Valmiera kids. It became a place where you could always go to to hang around, sip on a beer, see bands play and, also, figure out you might want to be in a band yourself, too!

Since early 2000s with the help of friends the practice space was turned into a studio, so that the local bands didn`t have to go elsewhere and spend impressive and often unreasonable amounts of money in order to record their music. Over the last couple of years the studio has undergone a number of stages of serious reconstruction, by each attempt getting closer and closer to the vision of Lomiks of what a quality studio based on DIY ethics, nevertheless, should be like.

In 2007 Arturs Skujiņš - Meijiņš joined the team of Lomiks, Niks Skrastiņš and Agris Purmalis, the latter to of which are the major live sound aid, as the 2nd sound engineer.

Nowadays Hodila Studio is a place to go if “a high-quality record for an affordable price” is what you`re out for.
